We warmly congratulate Viktor Ivanovich Balykin, Head of the Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory at ISAN, on receiving the ICO Galileo Galilei Medal Award.
On September 20, 2021, the Bureau of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) approved the award of the Galileo Galilei Medal 2021 to Viktor I. Balykin in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the fields of laser cooling, trapping and control of atoms, and the manipulation of atomic mechanical motion.
After several years, the medal has finally reached Russia. On November 25, 2025, the award was presented to Viktor I. Balykin during a ceremonial meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
