Laser fluorescence detection of single atom demonstrated.
1979 - 1989 Laser cooling of neutral atoms:
First demonstration of laser cooling of neutral atoms.
First demonstration of laser collimation of neutral atoms.
1989 - 1991 Laser cooling of relativistic ion beams:
First demonstration of laser cooling of relativistic ion beam.
1991 - present Atom optics:
First demonstration of atom mirror. Atom channeling in standing wave. Deep atom focusing. First demonstration of the optical Stern-Gerlach effect.
1998 - present Atom nano optics:
Atom guiding and trapping with optical nanofiber introduced and developed. Atom trapping in van der Waals potential by laser induced quantum adsorption demonstrated. Atom nanooptics based on photon dots and photon holes introduced.
2005 - present Atom nanolithography and nano optics:
Realization of Feynman’s scalable nano manufacturing system. Development of atom nanolithography.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Victor Balykin is a head of Laser spectroscopy laboratory and a member of the Scientific Councils of Institute of Spectroscopy. He is a head of Science Education Center: “Atom optics and hanophotonics” (Institute of Spectroscopy and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) and a head of Science Education Center: “Physics of surfaces and films” (Institute of Spectroscopy and Moscow State Aviation Technology Institute).
He served also as a member of Organizing/Program Committees/Advisory Board member for many of International conferences, including International Conference on Atomic Physics, International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy, International Conference on Coherent and Nonlinear Optics, International Quantum Electronics Conference, German-Russian Laser Symposium, and others. He is a member of the American Physical Society (APS).
